Season extension

Responding to growing demand from our users, àVélo is extending its season! From April 15 to 30 and November 1 to 15, the service will be available on a partial network.

Network adjustment

We will be progressively shutting down the network from November 1 to 15. During this period, a minimum of 70 stations and 700 bikes will remain available. For more information, please consult the progressive network shutdown map.

Safety and weather

In April and November, road conditions can be unpredictable. Snow or ice may cover the pavement. Please exercise caution and adjust your riding accordingly. We remind you that the bikes are not designed for winter conditions (tires are not studded), and wearing a helmet remains mandatory.

The service reserves the right to temporarily close stations in case of unsafe conditions. Users will always be able to return a bike, but will not be able to take a new one while the network is closed. No refund will be issued in the event of a temporary or early closure of the network.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why is the extended season only offered in certain neighborhoods with fewer stations than during the regular season?

The early installation and late removal of equipment still pose logistical challenges for our teams due to uncertain weather conditions. This is why we have decided to focus our efforts on deploying an extended network in neighborhoods with the highest traffic and where a four-season bike network is already in place, particularly near the VivaCité corridors. In addition, this network consists primarily of electrified stations*.

Why is the season only being extended by two weeks?

We have to consider that bike batteries do not charge below zero degrees Celsius, even at electrified stations. To avoid logistical challenges, we are limiting the season extension to the first two weeks of November, when average daytime temperatures typically remain above the freezing point. Additionally, our current equipment is not suited for winter conditions. This extension will serve as a test period, as our analysis shows that the risk of snowfall during the first half of November remains very low based on data from recent years.

Why did you choose to keep mostly electrified stations open?

Since 100% of the bike fleet is electric-assist, it’s essential that the extended network be made up almost entirely of electrified stations to ensure a high-quality experience for our users.

Colder temperatures and shorter daylight hours mean that solar-powered stations, which rely on battery storage, won’t charge sufficiently to operate 24/7. That’s why we’ve chosen to open primarily electrified stations, with only a few solar stations remaining in service—specifically in areas where demand justifies the more frequent technician interventions they require. This approach ensures a more consistent and reliable network.

Which stations will be available during the extended season?

What happens if there’s snow or ice?

Our team will closely monitor weather conditions. If unfavorable weather poses a safety risk to users, certain stations may be temporarily closed, or the entire network may be suspended depending on how conditions evolve. These adjustments are necessary to ensure user safety and provide a service adapted to current weather conditions. Information about service interruptions or station closures will be communicated at least 12 hours in advance, with continuous updates when needed, through our various communication channels.

If the network is temporarily suspended or closes early for the season, will refunds be issued?

What is the pricing for the extended season?

There is no specific pricing for the extended season. Rates remain the same for pay-per-minute single rides, the 24-hour multi-ride pass, and the 30-day memberships*. Good news: the two additional weeks are included in the annual membership.

*Please note that no credit or extension can be offered for unused days on 30-day memberships. It is your responsibility to choose the most cost-effective plan based on your needs. The 30-day membership becomes more economical than the 24-hour multi-ride pass after three consecutive days of use.
